Week 13; A Poem a Day

3/26/16

If heaven’s above
This spheroid of a planet
We are surrounded

3/28/16

There’s an extra warmth
In the city
It’s a place that makes heat
And holds on to heat
And doesn’t let go

It’s trapped in the insulation
Under gritty shingled roofs
Manifest in the friction
Between people and pavement
An anxious homeostasis

So as temperatures and night and winter descend
The city takes comfort
In its little spare warmth
That won’t go away
Which stays

As summer comes its way
And the land lends surplus heat
Still the city holds it
And won’t let go

As combustion continues
And black tar melts
And tempers flare
It holds it
And won’t let go

Just moves it around
Pushes it out
For others to feel it
But won’t let go
