Week 8; A Poem a Day

Can I mourn a tree

One more neighbor
Who’s moved on
One who greeted me
Every day
Through my childhood
With its bright white branches
Even when I forgot
To look up

Who lifted the sidewalk
With its mighty roots
To make a ramp
For me to jump
My bicycle
Who witnessed me first
Ride without training wheels

Its shade
Was just as much
My friend

How could a broad pillar
Of layered mosaic bark
Be cut down
In a day
